AN ADVENTURE WITH YOUR PARTY AT THE CENTER
An AI dungeon master.
A world that’s still yours.
Better D&D combines an online virtual tabletop with optional AI dungeon-master support. Keep a human DM in charge, use an AI helper for ideas, or choose an AI DM for supported campaign play.

What does Better D&D do?
Better D&D brings battle maps, character tools, shared campaign state, and campaign notes into one browser-based tabletop. Its AI features can help narrate scenes, portray non-player characters, and work with the supported campaign tools. The player-finding board helps people meet before the first session.
- Play on a shared tabletop: use tactical maps, character tokens, turns, and campaign tools.
- Keep the story together: use a campaign Codex, notes, goals, and memory alongside the tabletop.
- Choose who leads: Human DM, AI-assisted, and Full AI DM are separate modes.
- Find your group: join the player pool, request a campaign seat, or invite compatible players to a group you host.
Three ways to run a campaign
| Mode | Who leads? | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Human DM | Your human dungeon master | Run the session yourself with maps and campaign tools. New community tables start here. |
| AI-assisted | Your human DM, with optional AI help | Ask for ideas, descriptions, or suggestions. The human DM decides what becomes part of the adventure. |
| Full AI DM | The AI takes the DM role for supported play | Use AI narration and supported campaign actions. Campaign permissions, sponsor consent, and tool limits still apply. |
What “automated D&D” means here
Automated D&D can mean anything from tracking a character’s resources to having an AI narrate the next scene. Better D&D offers tabletop automation and optional AI support together. It does not claim perfect rules knowledge, every possible homebrew interaction, or unattended play without limits. The party can review outcomes, and the campaign DM can pause narration or adjust the game.
Start with people, then choose the tools
For a new group, first agree on an edition, session times, and play expectations. On the campaign board you can choose D&D 5e 2014, D&D 5e 2024, or either edition. Those are group-matching preferences, rather than a guarantee that every rule or supplement is automated.
Once an invitation is accepted, players receive access to that group’s private table. Human DM mode is the default. Turning on optional AI features requires a consenting API sponsor and available campaign funding; signing in with ChatGPT does not automatically fund AI play.
How to try Better D&D
- Sign in with ChatGPT and save a short player profile.
- Browse campaign openings or meet compatible people in the player pool.
- Request a seat, or start a Human DM campaign and invite players.
- Confirm the schedule and expectations with the group. Add optional AI support only when the campaign is ready for it.
Find the people for your next story.
You don’t need to arrive with an entire party. Start with your play preferences and a hello.
